Does Wealth alone define a Man?

"Society is broken" my Gran would often say "and it will likely get worse".
She was never a gloomy person and certainly no Prophet. What She had was the ability to assess and then predict.
She was part of a generation that had seen the toughest of times. My Grandad had lost His hand in the worst of Wars the World has ever seen.
He died when I was quite young but I remember a quiet but resilient Man.
What they would make of todays Society is hard to say but it would be clear that things had not Improved in the World of opportunity promised to all.
Some of course have done well. They are usually the ones telling us all, in case we had not noticed.
Wealth is the new measurement used to define a person....but of course Its just an Illusion.
Character was a big factor in my Grandparents generation.
When I grew up, being boastful was much less acceptable.Wealth was more hidden.
These days, missing a holiday or wearing un-branded trainers, leads people to therapy!
Then we publish the "Rich List" each year to signify the best of them all. Surely proof of an ailing Society that lacks realistic balance.
Character seems to be the benefit of struggle. Its in the North East and places like Barnsley.
I never judge anyone but its pretty clear young ones today are in the throes of the worst of times.
Will they become a lost society?
Personally I think more character is needed in Society and less people looking down their noses on others.
It might be better of course if wealth was of benefit to all but it seems that formula has not yet been cracked.
Equality is not likely to break out soon. Some would not wish it.
Education will be needed....not just for those without, but as much for those with more.
In the end a Man is never measured by His wealth but a Man who used His wealth for more than just His own comfort, will have cause to be remembered.
Here today....Gone tomorrow. Its as true of Money as it is of Life.....so never take them for granted.

Consider the Evidence before making your claim

Human nature is a funny thing and prone to fooling itself by "rationalising"
Whenever someone speaks at length about being an "Individual" or "Unique" why do we then find them following the crowd!
I met a Man recently who wanted to tell anyone who listened to Him that "no person" or "anything" would ever hold authority over Him.
When I mentioned that all of us are accountable to some authority He said proudly "not Me!"
He disappeared several times looking a little agitated.
It became apparent He needed a Cigarette on a regular basis.
I asked Him if He had ever considered the "Authority" that He was tied to and Indignantly, He challenged "How do you work that out?"
"Well" I said, "Are you not the Slave and the Cigarette Master over you?"
What we think is not always compatible with the facts.
It’s best to take a close and honest look at what we claim before we make it.
The evidence should then always back up our claim.

A "Master" at work at the Barnsley Chronicle...

Every so often a Man arrives in a Town and splits opinion.
Andrew Harrod, a Giant of a Man in the literal sense, has threatened change in Barnsley.
With a highly regarded background in Publishing He is now the Editor of Barnsley Chronicle.
For many years "Ferret" has appeared as a weekly column, offering wit, sarcasm and trepidation for many.
Few have known the true identity of Ferret as He strolled the Town collecting tales of Townsfolk.
Local Councillors turned the pages slowly to see if they found themselves chastised.
Ferret may have been the person sat next to you on the Bus, Intent on catching your conversations to share with the Town.
You might find your Car Number Plate Mocked by a Professional Mocker! Under cover of anonymity Ferret lurked to share your actions and thoughts.
And now.....Andrew Harrod is considering taking the Axe to Ferret!
The half of Town that dislike Ferret rejoice but the half of Town who support Him refuse to let the Axe fall.
Perhaps our Editor will follow Solomon in offering to use the Axe to split Ferret into two!
Our Editor sees the future and wants to modernise.
Half the Town just see "Tinkering" with the Towns heritage and oppose change.Ferret is a Friend.
The "Big Man"  will need His shoulders and promises to "Think carefully" before a final decision is made.
He has stirred the Town to life.
What can you say about this Barnsley Lad?
As the circulation of the Chronicle no doubt rises and the Town Has been drawn into the debate.....We have seen the art of "Marketing", a master at work.
Everyone knows our New Editor has arrived.
The style is changing and for the better. And we are paying attention.
Its good to hear Barnsley "Shouting" about something because they will need to as they tell the rest of the World about their talents to survive future challenges.
The Chronicle looks set to be more positive.
If so..it is never likely to be boring!
Never doubt it.....Andrew Harrod has already shown how shrewd He is.
The Town has come to life....and life will come to the Town when we present our good Image.
Change is afoot (maybe) and it grabs our attention.
Suddenly we are not just arguing about the football....but talking about that Fella at the Chronicle!

Perfect or "Perfectionist"?

I seem to have bumped into a few "Perfectionists" lately. I expected them to be people that aim high but who are mature enough to realise no-one is actually
perfect!
Seems not in some cases.
It seems they visualise themselves as never making mistakes.
When you are in this kind of denial I am guessing you never see How frustrated you become and How much such a self Image exasperates others.
The danger of being such a "Perfect" person is that you look down on others and are quick to point out their flaws.(Whilst seeing none of your Own)
Really successful people are bright enough to see the talent of others and are ready to harness it.
Being perfect Isolates you from reality and others...so how will you really measure yourself.
A Friend from a poor background had a fitting story from growing up in Yorkshire.
They had a table that all the Family sat round to eat and chat. (A tradition long since lost)
The table had scratches, marks and chips.
On occasions when the Family had a visitor, Mum would put a beautiful table cloth on the table to hide its flaws.
It struck me that none of us should be too quick to judge the  flaws of others.
I hereby declare Imperfection and apologise if you find me wearing a table cloth!
Look a little closer though and you will see that for all my flaws I will always aim high but within range!
