Social Networking - Power of good and bad

There is no doubting we live in the age of Social Networking.
The two prominent ones are Facebook and Twitter.
It keeps us in touch, almost substituting for a phone call or an email.
A way of understanding the power is to compare users with the population of the U.S.A. which is currently near 313 million.
Facebook users number over 800 million!
13.5 million are under 13 years of age.
Twitter by comparison has 300 million users.
The problem is they make you highly visible and its best never to forget that this increases the possibility of identity fraud or misuse.
Try to keep in mind these factors as a user to ensure you are alert.
The effect on your privacy.
The time you spend on Social Networks.
The quality of association you create. Deal with who you know and trust.
Consider your reputation. Be careful to behave in a way which brings credit to you. Your language, opinions and reactions form an impression to others.
Whilst Social Networking can be useful it has its inherent dangers so never let your guard down.

Ian Thomson...never had a P

The best Managing Director i ever worked for was Ian Thomson, never forgetting that there was no P in His surname. It irritated Him no end to the point that a proposal in the post with a P might be destined for the bin!
"Detail is important He would say. If you expect to get Business do your homework"
He was a realist, always telling Managers not to dress things up when a problem arose.
"Give it me warts and all and then we can deal with it properly",He would say.
"Half truths are of no value. You can throw half a brick further and it increases the chance of damage".
His death following early retirement caused by ill health was a blow for the Chemical Industry but the void has never been filled.
When i took Him the problem i always went with a solution.
I recall as i would leave His Office His words would leave me smiling.
"I like it that you are a problem solver - Ive got enough problem makers".
He was an exceptional human being, professional, decent and the kind of role model we are short of these days.

Eric The Great...A Man with vision

Its funny how with time you realise the value of "Hindsight".
Someone once said that life has a habit of asking you take the exam before teaching you the subject!
As a young Man i worked for the Burton Group.
My Manager was a Bowler Hatted Man called Eric Earlston.
To say he seemed impossible to please is an understatement.
Retirement was not far away and i clung to the thought to give me endurance.
I loved my job but intensely disliked His harsh methods, particularly since i got more than my fair share.
The day finally came and i was taken by surprise when He invited me to join others at His home to mark the occasion.
Well, it was a celebration finally for me so one final act of respect could do no harm could it?
To say i was out of place with these oldies was clear to me.
Suddenly He invited me to join Him in His front lounge and asked me to sit down.
All these years on its vivid in my mind.
He asked if He had left me feeling hard done by?
When i said yes His reply left me both 12 feet tall and one inch small at the same time.
"I did it to help you" He said. "I see something in you that even you dont yet. I needed to push you and i know it was hard but with the time i had,i needed to make you ready for a promising career. One day you will see it".
I went on to become the youngest Branch Manager in Manchester area, breaking untold trading records.
I never forgot the importance of investing in others to achieve.
My way was never so harsh but i did get to see the good outcomes.
I remember Him often.

Monkey Business in a Childs Eye

Mother talking to Her Daughter.
They are visiting the Zoo, a World of huge experience for a young one.
"Mummy", the child began.
"Yes sweetheart?" replied Mum.
"Is it really true what they say, that we all came from Monkeys?"
With no hesitation Mum confirmed it as true only to notice a puzzled look form on the childs face.
"Whats the matter?" Mum asked.
"I just think its sad. You are always telling me I should Love and respect Grandma and Grandad so its cruel to put our relatives in cages!".
Ouch.Dont you just love simplicity!

Remarkable things we never think about.....

The Amazing Red Blood Cell
Actual Cell size is eight thousandth of 1 mm Diameter and two thousandths of 1 mm thick.
The Human body produces 2 Million Red Cells every second.
Each Red Cell completes a journey around the body every Minute.
Each Red Cell has a lifespan of around 120 days (4Months)
Each Red Cell is filtered out of the body through the Spleen and Body Tissue.

Haemoglobin
Haemoglobin is a pigment in the Red Cell for transporting Oxygen.
Each Red Cell has 640 Million Haemoglobin Molecules.
Each Haemoglobin Molecule has Four Oxygen Molecules.
This means that 2560 Million Oxygen Molecules journey around the body in a minute cycle in each single Red Cell. Two Million Red Cells are produced every second.

Successful co-operation relies on agreeing the task first!

A Man out walking observed the struggle of another Man at His Home.
The struggle was that one Man alone was failing to move a Washing Machine from His doorway.
Asked if He needed help the householder said "I have been trying for fifteen minutes to get it through the doorway without success"
The walker said "two of us will move it better" and took one side of the washing machine to help.
Fifteen more minutes past with not an inch of movement!
The walker said "I never thought it would be so hard to get a Washer into a House".
With a surprised look the Householder replied " Who said I was trying to get it in. I am trying to get it out!"

Well Done Barnsley Hospital

When you think of the budget needed to run a local Hospital the numbers are hard to Imagine.
Even harder for us to Imagine are the pressures and strains on Staff to care for local needs.
Many horror stories are told of Hospitals, to become myths.
For the real tragedies that arise we all feel deep sadness.
But the positives are many too.
Take Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for Instance.
Offering a wide range of World class treatments from caring and helpful professionals, the Hospital is achieving short waiting times and very low rates of infections for patients.
As one of the leading Foundation Trusts in the country it is run by the community on behalf of the community.

Using modern equipment the Hospital is well known for its pioneering work and research.
One of the abiding strengths of Barnsley Townsfolk is that they place great importance on community spirit and care. As they would rightly expect, a community Hospital is expected to perform at the highest standards of care and governance. Good health and life skills are at the heart of Barnsley’s needs and Staff do their best to continue as positive contributors to the experience of going into Hospital, which is an anxious time. This enables the experience to be a reassuring one for patients.
Barnsley celebrates such care and thanks all dedicated Staff.
