The best Managing Director i ever worked for was Ian Thomson, never forgetting that there was no P in His surname. It irritated Him no end to the point that a proposal in the post with a P might be destined for the bin!
"Detail is important He would say. If you expect to get Business do your homework"
He was a realist, always telling Managers not to dress things up when a problem arose.
"Give it me warts and all and then we can deal with it properly",He would say.
"Half truths are of no value. You can throw half a brick further and it increases the chance of damage".
His death following early retirement caused by ill health was a blow for the Chemical Industry but the void has never been filled.
When i took Him the problem i always went with a solution.
I recall as i would leave His Office His words would leave me smiling.
"I like it that you are a problem solver - Ive got enough problem makers".
He was an exceptional human being, professional, decent and the kind of role model we are short of these days.
