There’s no doubt that we Fellas are really grateful for the hard work of you Ladies when our shirts turn up in that magical way when we left them lying around – now looking clean, well pressed and smelling clean.
We Men of course do not understand the intricacies that go into such precise cleaning but it’s good to be well turned out.
Apparently it’s vital to use a non bio washing powder in a cool wash?
You guessed it – I went and asked why and was told that it’s to kill germs, ensure no powder is left behind for sensitive skin and low energy saves the Planet.
Now, you know I don’t like to be too pedantic but this all sounds like good Marketing to me – and I love good Marketing, unless like this case it is based on a Myth!
Pulling at me though is that i am a Chemical Man who deals with cleaning processes in Industry – and such logic defies facts.
Will it break hearts to know?
If you constantly use cold wash its more likely that Bacteria will be present.
Ever thought there was a bad smell when you opened the door? That’s Bacteria and I would hazard a guess that E-Coli is present.
A 30 degree wash likely kills 6-10% of dust mites, whilst 60 degrees will kill 100%.
Non Bio versus Bio like most things in life has been overtaken by technology.
Bio products contain Enzymes that support killing off germs and in modern washing machines the rinse cycles completely eliminate any residues and so crush the sensitivity argument.
A 30 degree wash will likely save us 2 pence when compared overall to a 60 degrees wash. Beware someone playing with percentages when telling us what we might save. After all 2 pence is 100% more than 1 pence!
The trick might be to make sure you do hot washes occasionally since this has a greater ability to kill germs.
I’m not sure if it’s still done now, since cloth nappies have declined, but Mums used to put Napisan in a wash separately to act as a germ killer. Some form of suitable disinfectant in a cool wash has merits.
There’s a lot goes on in a washing machine and the only greater joy of satisfaction comes with the Ironing – another mystery to many Men.
Is it best I pretend it’s still a mystery to me?
You know what they say about “clever clogs” – and in my house those who know best get to do a proper job.
Women know best.......or is that another Myth!
I think it might be against my Human Rights to ask me to comment and anyway, being a Deputy has never bothered me.
